Rolling Back the Blowhards

Christopher Hitchens met his match last week when he debated Jon Stewart on the Daily Show. Hitchens trotted out his usual good-vs-evil-liberals-hate-America routine, and Stewart called him on it. The video is here. The most telling part is the end--Hitchens can't wait to leave. Hitchens normally debates people who are equally if not more immoderate than he is (George Galloway, Tariq Ali) and when he is matched with someone who is both articulate and reasonable he gets revealed for what he is: a well-read, well-traveled, and pompous ideologue who gravitates to extreme positions. Why? One suspects it is because Christopher Hitchens, more than anything, wants people to talk about Christopher Hitchens.
