Department of Improbable Research

Physicists in Hungary have performed a series of quantitative analyses to explain the dynamics of the wave. Not the wave as in the ocean, but the wave as in the vaguely annoying ballgame ritual that forces you to stand up every few minutes while hopefully not dropping your hot dog or spilling your beer. Their research was published in the journal Nature, albeit not as a peer-reviewed article. The simulation model they developed can be viewed here. The article is here.
